Survivors by the Sea was founded in 2006 by a small group of  10 cancer patients/survivors in Winthrop, Massachusetts.

They realized that, even though they had a good support network of family and friends, no one understood what they were going through like another patient.

Since then, the group has grown to over 100 members from Greater Boston and the surrounding area.

We’ve maintained the camaraderie and culture that the core group created. There is no formal agenda or meeting schedule.  We hold our quarterly get-togethers in the casual setting of one of our homes.

The mission is unchanged; We give each other support, encouragement,  laughter,  motivation and hugs in whatever order they are needed.

Our logo sail reflects our Survivors’ many types of cancer, and the red buoy guides us safely to the end of the journey.

The Relay for Life was a huge success! We had a lot of SBTS members for the survivor’s lap in the beginning and then a core group of amazing women stayed the night to walk the laps to raise money. It was an amazing night and we hope there will be even more survivors and walkers present next year! Thanks to Yvonne for organizing this great event.

Survivors by the Sea will forever be located in the heart of Boston at The Cancer Garden of Hope at Boston City Hall Plaza.  Thanks to a generous donation by Linda Cohen- if anyone goes to the Garden for some comfort- they can find our brick inviting them to join us and to visit our website. Isn’t that great? You can still buy a brick for a friend or family member at conquercancer.org/Garden_of_Hope All proceeds go to the cancer charity of your choice.

We continue to donate customized Survivor Bags to recently diagnosed, local cancer patients undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment. The totebags are filled with items our survivors found comforting and useful during treatment.  If you know of someone and would like us to reach out to them (as a support group and to give them a bag)  please let Linda Calla know. 857-201-9242 or heynamaste@comcast.net

For Survivors – your welcome to purchase a blanket or totebag with our embroidered logo for $15 each.

We are collecting used (but in good shape) hats, scarves, turbans, wigs – anything you used to cover your head when you didn’t have hair. We are also collecting all of those cancer books you found so useful and won’t mind giving to the next survivor. Linda Calla has graciously offered to house our collection to give out to future survivors.  So clean out those closets Ladies! Bring them to our next get together. Thanks!
